Junior Girls Cricket
“A Chance To Shine.”
A pilot scheme for BISC that was initially offered to 6 School-To-Club-Link Schools.
Over the past months BISC have engaged in Bolton Council & Greater Sport’s school-to-club link initiatives with the Lancashire County Cricket Board’s “A Chance to Shine” scheme (Cricket for junior girls).
Schools participating were: Harper Green High School, St James’s Sports College; St Michaels, Queensbridge, All Saints, SS Osmunds & Andrews. This is where girl’s cricket was delivered in local schools by our BISC Sports Coach and here, through coaches provided by initiative leader Paul Bryson of LCB, girls got a chance to play cricket together within their own comfort zone. As a treat these schools were then offered to come to BISC in a mini-tournament against each other. Here they met new friends, got a chance to raise their game, team build, socially interact and….make a lot of noise……At BISC the participating schools each got a certificate, a reference booklet and “A Chance To Shine” classroom resource called “MCC Spirit of Cricket” DVD. Hopefully this is here at BISC where we recently began developing a junior girls section to link into our ladies team. At the moment all girls interested in cricket were put under ladies 'open age.'
Before, during and afterwards.
Pictures show the junior schools that took part in the ECB's. "A Chance To Shine Scheme" in action. Schools getting involved on the final day at BISC were St Michaels, Queensbridge, SS Osmunds & Andrews and All Saints. St James' & Harper Green having other sporting commitments that day, sent all the junior teams taking part their best wishes. It is hoped that off the back of this initiative these girls, their respective schools and parents, will feel more comfortable about coming to BISC and will join in with our new junior girl's cricket section.
